Velu Military Restaurant

Velu Military Restaurant is over in Nungambakkam, specifically at number 59 on Valluvar Kottam High Road. We are quite close to the Valluvar Kottam monument, which is a big landmark that everyone knows. Military-style restaurants have a certain tradition in this part of the country, and we try to keep that spirit alive here. The place is quite basic inside with long tables and simple benches. We don't go in for fancy lighting or air conditioning that makes you freeze; we just have regular fans and open windows. The kitchen is the heart of the restaurant, and it’s a very busy place with a lot of spice and steam in the air. Nungambakkam is a hectic part of Chennai, and the noise from the high road is something we hear all day long. We don't have a big marketing budget or any fancy flyers. Most of the people who eat here are locals or people who work in the nearby offices and shops. We start our day very early to get the meat and spices ready for the first customers. It’s hard work, and the kitchen gets very hot, but we’ve been doing this for a long time. We don't have any grand goals or missions, we just focus on getting the food on the plates and making sure the floor is swept at the end of every shift. It’s a real, no-nonsense kind of place where the focus is just on the daily routine and keeping the stove burners going.
