Anjappar Chettinad Restaurant

Our restaurant is on Armenian Street in Parrys, which is one of the oldest and most crowded parts of Chennai. We are at Old No 122 or New No 58, depending on which sign you look at. It’s right opposite the High Court, so we see a lot of lawyers, clerks, and people with court business coming in for a quick lunch. Armenian Street is very narrow and usually packed with lorries and delivery carts, so it’s always a bit of a scramble getting things inside. We’ve been here for a long time. The building shows its age a bit, but that’s just how it is in Parrys. We don't have time for anything fancy because the pace here is so fast. From the moment we open, it’s just constant movement. The kitchen is always busy, and the waiters are always on their feet. We just try to get the food out hot and fast. It’s a noisy area with all the horns honking outside and the general buzz of the market, but people seem to like the energy of it. We don't do much in the way of advertising; people just know we are here across from the court. It’s a very practical, no-nonsense kind of place. We keep the floors swept and the water jugs filled, and we just keep going through the day until the sun goes down. It's tough work, but it's what we do.
