Al Abbas Briyani

Al Abbas Briyani is situated at No 75 on Moore Street in the Mannady section of Chennai. We are quite close to the Maamoor Majid Mosque which is a major point for everyone around here. Mannady is one of those places where the streets are narrow and there is always a lot of shouting and bells ringing from the cycles. We spend most of our time standing over the big biryani pots and making sure the fire is just right. It’s a very old part of town and our building fits right in with the others on the street. People come in mostly for a quick lunch during their work break or they take food home to their families in the evening. We don’t have much room for people to lounge around so it’s usually quite fast-paced inside. The smell of the food usually travels down Moore Street and that’s how most people know we are open for the day. We don’t use any fancy machines or anything like that we just do things by hand like they’ve always been done. It gets very busy on Fridays after the prayers at the mosque and we have to work double time to keep up with everyone. It’s a simple life but it keeps us busy and we like being part of the Mannady community.
