Udipi Sri Durga Bhavan

Udipi Sri Durga Bhavan is right here at No 20 on Mannady Street. If you know this part of Chennai, you know how Mannady gets. It is always busy with people moving around and the noise of the city never really stops. We have been in this spot for a while now. The building is just a regular one, nothing fancy to look at from the outside. Inside, it is just tables and chairs where people sit down to eat their breakfast or lunch before heading back to work. We open up pretty early in the morning when the air is still a bit cool. You can see the tea being made and the steam coming off the pots. The staff here has been around for years and they know the regulars by face. We don't really do much talking, just getting the plates out and making sure the floor is swept once in a while. Mannady Street has a lot of history and we are just a small part of that daily life. Sometimes the power goes out or the heavy rain makes the street muddy, but we keep the doors open anyway. The ceiling fans hum all day to keep the humidity away. It’s a simple place for a quick meal. No one comes here for the decor or anything like that. They just want to sit for twenty minutes and then get on with their day. That is how it has always been here.
