St George's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School & Orphanage

This place has been standing on Poonamallee High Road for a very long time. Most people in Shenoy Nagar recognize the old buildings of St George's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School and Orphanage. It’s a big spot right on EVR Salai. We have the school part and then the home for the kids who don't have families. It’s a lot of responsibility keeping everything running. The buildings are old, so they need a lot of repairs now and then. You’ll see the paint peeling in some corners, but we try to fix what we can when the funds come in. The morning assembly is usually quite loud with all the kids gathered together. It’s a mix of different ages, from the little ones to the teenagers finishing their higher secondary years. We have a playground that gets quite muddy when it rains in Chennai, but the kids don't seem to mind. The teachers and the staff who look after the orphanage stay busy from morning till night. It’s not just about lessons; it’s about making sure everyone is fed and looked after. We’ve seen many generations of students walk through these gates. Some of the old boys still stop by to see how the place is doing. It’s a bit of a landmark on this busy road. We don’t have fancy air conditioning in every room, just ceiling fans and open windows to catch the breeze. It is just a place doing its best for the children.
