Sree Agarwal Bhojanaalay

Our place is No 15 on Venkat Royar Lane, right off NSC Bose Road in Park Town, Chennai. This part of Chennai is incredibly busy almost all the time. There are people everywhere and the noise from the traffic on NSC Bose Road never really stops. We are a bhojanaalay which means we focus on simple meals. We have been in Park Town for a while and we see a lot of people who work in the nearby markets or who are just coming from the railway station. It is a small space and it gets very warm inside when the stoves are all going. We don't have any fancy furniture. Just tables and chairs that are easy to clean. We spend a lot of time kneading dough and making sure the dal is cooked right. The kitchen is the heart of the place and it is always a bit chaotic. We serve food on metal plates because it is practical. People come here for a quick meal that reminds them of home. We don't do any advertising. Word of mouth is how people find us in this narrow lane. Sometimes the rain floods the street a bit but we stay open anyway. We have a small staff and we all help out with everything from cooking to cleaning. It is hard work but we are used to it by now. We just serve the food and keep going.
