If you know Parrys in Chennai, you know it is always moving. Prasad Vegetarian Restaurant is tucked into No 14, 2nd line beach road. It is a tight squeeze around here near the Airtel building and right behind the GPO. The streets are narrow and there are always people rushing to get somewhere. Inside, we have the smell of fried spices and the sound of plates clattering together. We open early to get the first batch of food ready for the office workers. It isn't a quiet place to sit and read a book. It is a place to eat and get back to work. The fans on the ceiling spin fast to keep the heat away, but it is still Chennai, so it is always a bit warm. We keep the floor swept, but with all the feet coming in from the dusty street, it is a constant job. You can find us easily if you look for the second lane beach. We don't have fancy menus with pictures. We just have the food we make every day. Most of our regulars don't even look at the board; they just sit down and wait for their usual plate.
