Namma Vettu Biryani

Our place is at No 408/1185 on T H Road in the Washermanpet area of Chennai. We’re quite close to the old Pandian Theatre, which is a landmark people around here know well. We spend our days making biryani in big quantities. It’s a busy spot because T H Road is one of those main arteries where there’s always something happening. We have a small team of people who help with the chopping and the cooking and the serving. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting heavy pots and staying on our feet for hours. The neighborhood is crowded and lively. We get all sorts of people coming in—workers, families, students. We try to keep the prices fair so everyone can have a meal. The building we’re in at Namma Vettu Biryani is nothing fancy, just a regular shopfront on a busy road. We’ve had to deal with the usual city problems, like the heat and the dust from the road. But we keep the place as clean as we can and focus on the food. It’s a straightforward life. We open up, we cook, we serve, and we clean up at the end. There’s no big secret to it, just staying consistent and being here when people are hungry. Being near the Pandian Theatre means there’s usually some energy in the air, especially in the evenings when people are out and about. We’re just a local biryani spot doing our part in the middle of Washermanpet every single day.
