Marcas Biryani Centre

Marcas Biryani Centre is over here on N N Street in Washermanpet. If you know where the old Pandian Theatre used to be, we are right near that spot. It’s a busy part of Chennai and things get pretty loud outside with the traffic and people walking by all day. We spend a lot of time in the kitchen every morning getting the big pots ready. It’s usually hot, even before the stoves are turned on, but that is just how it is in this part of town. The shop is simple and we don’t have much fancy stuff around. We just focus on getting the rice and meat done so people can eat when they come in from the heat. Most of our customers are folks who live right around here or people working in the nearby shops. You see the same faces every day. Sometimes the street gets blocked up with bikes, but we manage. We’ve been at this address for a while now and we know the neighbors pretty well. It’s not a big place, just a regular corner in 600021 where we do our work. The shutters go up early and we stay until the food runs out. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy bags and cleaning up, but it keeps us busy. We don’t really do much advertising or anything, people just find us because they’re walking past or they heard about us from someone else on the street. It’s a simple living and we just take it one day at a time.
