Zimskhang Restaurant

Out here in Alchi, things move a lot slower than in the bigger cities. Zimskhang Restaurant is part of the Zimskhang Holiday Home, tucked away in the Choskor Alchi area of Leh Ladakh. It’s a quiet spot, surrounded by the mountains and the old history of the village. Most people who find their way to us are visiting the monastery or staying at the holiday home for a few nights. We’ve got a simple setup that fits the local style. The air is thin and cold up here, so we try to keep the inside feeling warm for whoever walks in. It’s a family-run kind of vibe where we handle most things ourselves. We don't have a massive menu, just the things we know how to make well. You’ll see us prepping vegetables in the morning while looking out at the hills. In the summer months, we get more visitors from all over the world, and it’s interesting to hear their stories while they eat. During the winter, it gets much quieter, and it’s mostly just us and a few locals who stick around. It’s a long way from the main town of Leh, but that’s why people like coming out this way. We just keep the stoves going and make sure there’s enough tea for everyone. There’s no rush here, and we like it that way. It’s just how life is in this part of the world.
