Auspicious Restaurant

We are located inside Hotel Auspicious on Chulung Old Road in Leh. Being up here in Ladakh, things work a little differently than they do down in the plains. The winters are long and quiet, but when the season starts, the town gets very lively. Our restaurant is a simple place where we cook for the travelers and locals who find their way to Chulung Old Road. It’s not a fancy setup with a lot of chrome and glass. We use what we have available in the mountains. Sometimes the electricity goes out or the supply trucks are late because of the mountain passes, but we always find a way to make it work. The kitchen is the heart of the building. We make a lot of hot tea and soups because it gets chilly even in the summer evenings. Our staff is mostly people from the nearby villages. We aren't trying to be a five-star place; we just want to offer a warm seat and a decent meal. You can see the mountains from the windows, which is the best part of being here. We don't spend money on big signs or ads. Most people just walk in because they are staying in the hotel or saw us from the road. It’s a slow pace of life, and we like it that way. We just keep the stove going and wait for the next guest to walk through the door.
