Samyas Restaurant

Operating Samyas Restaurant up here in Leh Ladakh is quite something. We are located in Khaltsi, specifically at Leh Ho, 194101. The weather is the main thing we deal with every day. When it gets cold, we just huddle inside. It’s a small place, nothing fancy. We serve the people passing through Khaltsi on their way to or from Leh. The mountains are right there outside the window. We don't have a massive menu because getting supplies up here can be a bit tricky depending on the roads. Sometimes the trucks are late, so we make do with what we have in the pantry. It’s a family-run kind of thing. My hands are usually stained from peeling vegetables. We keep the stove going mostly to stay warm as much as to cook. The floors are a bit worn down from all the boots coming in. We don’t have fancy lighting, just enough to see what you’re eating. It’s a quiet life for the most part, except when the tourist season hits. Then it gets a bit frantic. We try our best to keep up. It’s just a simple restaurant in a high place. If you find yourself in Khaltsi, you’ll likely see our sign. We’ve been here a while and don't plan on going anywhere. It’s just home for us. The stone walls are thick to keep the wind out, and we usually have a kettle whistling somewhere. It’s a bit rough around the edges.
