Otaro Restaurant

Otaro Restaurant is actually inside the Jaisalmer Fort, which is pretty cool if you think about it. We are located at the Desert Boys Guest House in the Vyas Para area. The streets inside the fort are really narrow and made of old stone, so you have to walk everywhere. You can't really bring a car or even a bike up here very easily. It’s an old building, very traditional with the yellow stone that Jaisalmer is famous for. We have been running the place for a while. It’s a bit of a climb to get here through the gates, but the view of the city is worth it. We get a lot of travelers staying at the guest house who eat with us every day. It’s not a big corporate place. It’s more like a family-run thing where we all do a bit of everything. We cook what we know. The wind can get quite strong up on the fort walls in the evenings. We spend our days mostly in the kitchen or talking to guests about where they are from. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit, but that’s just part of living in an old historic fort. We try to keep things simple and honest. No big signs or flashing lights outside. Just a quiet spot to sit down and have a meal. We like being part of the fort community. It’s a different kind of life up here compared to the city down below.
