8 July Restaurant is in a very unique spot, right on the Fort in Jaisalmer at Dusera Chowk. We are located directly opposite the Raja Palace, which means we have a view of the old stone walls and the history of the city right outside our windows. Living and working on the fort is different from being down in the main city. Everything has to be carried up the narrow paths, which can be a bit of a challenge some days. The building we are in is old, with thick walls that keep it relatively cool even when the Rajasthan sun is beating down. We get many tourists coming through to see the palace, but we also have local friends who stop by to chat. The restaurant is decorated with simple things we’ve gathered over the years. It’s not a luxury establishment; it’s more like sitting in someone’s living room that happens to serve food. I enjoy watching the sunset from the fort, and I think our guests do too. We serve dishes that are familiar and easy to enjoy. Sometimes the service might be a little slow if we are having a busy afternoon, but we try to be honest about the wait. We don't use any corporate slogans or big promises. We just offer a place to sit and eat while you explore the fort. If you find yourself at Dusera Chowk, you can come in and take a rest.
