RS Mani Unavagam

You will find us at No 39 C on Mission Street, over in the Chetty Street area of Pondicherry. We are quite close to the Kaladeeshwarar Temple in Heritage Town. This part of town has a lot of history and we have been part of it for some time. Our unavagam is a small, local eatery. We don't have air conditioning or anything like that, just some fans and open doors. Most people come here because they want a meal that tastes like what they get at home. We serve a lot of rice and sambar. The mornings start early with getting the tiffin ready for the breakfast crowd. By lunchtime, it gets very crowded and people often have to wait a few minutes for a stool to open up. We don't use a lot of fancy ingredients, just what we get from the local market. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we are more concerned with what’s happening in the kitchen. Our staff is just a few people who have worked together for a long time. We know the regular temple-goers who stop by after their morning prayers. It’s a loud, busy place during peak hours, but that’s just how it is. We appreciate everyone who stops by. It’s a simple life running a small mess in Pondicherry, and we just take it one day at a time.
