Maurya Garden Restaurant

Maurya Garden Restaurant is located on Salai Vinayagar Koil Street, just a short walk from the Anandha Inn here in Pondicherry. We chose this spot because it has a bit of a breeze and feels right for a meal. It’s a simple setup we’ve got at number 10. We aren't trying to be one of those high-end tourist traps you see in the main city center. Instead, we just focus on serving the kind of food we’d eat at home. The garden area is nice when the weather is good, though we spend a lot of time chasing away the occasional stray bird or sweeping up leaves. Running a restaurant in Pondy means you meet all sorts of people, from locals on their lunch break to travelers looking for something real. We’ve been here for a while and the street has seen a lot of changes, but our kitchen stays pretty much the same. We don’t have a massive menu with a thousand items. We just do what we know. Our staff are mostly guys from the neighborhood who have been with us for years. It’s a bit noisy sometimes with the traffic nearby, but we like the energy. We don't do much advertising. Usually, people just see our sign or hear about us from a friend. We’re just happy to keep the stoves burning and the tables full every day. It’s hard work, but it’s our life.
