Daily Bread

Our shop is located on the first floor at number 54 along Ambour Salai. It’s quite easy to find us because we are right near the BSNL office here in Pondicherry. Being upstairs means we get a bit of a breeze sometimes, which is nice when the weather gets humid. We spend a lot of our time in the kitchen area, mixing dough and checking the ovens. It smells like fresh bread here most of the morning. We started this place because we wanted to have a spot where people could pick up something simple to eat. We have some tables if you want to sit down, but many people just stop by on their way home from work. The stairs can be a bit steep, so you have to watch your step coming up. We keep the counters stocked with whatever we’ve baked that day. Since we are in the 605001 area, we see a lot of locals and some people visiting the town. It’s not a large operation, just a few of us working behind the counter and in the back. We don't use any complicated machines, mostly just our hands and the ovens. Some days are busier than others, especially when the schools nearby let out. We just try to get the baking done right and make sure there’s enough for everyone who comes by. It’s a plain space, nothing too decorated, just a regular bakery for the neighborhood.
