We are over in Jhikra village, which is part of the Dighalgram area in Haringhata. It’s a nice enough place to be if you like being around green fields and open air. Haringhata Sudurika Farmers Producer Company Limited is what we call ourselves, but to most people around here, we are just the local farm group. We don't have a corporate office with air conditioning. Our work happens outside or in a small room where we keep our bags of seed and our ledgers. Life in Jhikra is pretty steady. You wake up early, see what the sky looks like, and then get to work. We started this because it’s better for us to move our produce as a group. It’s not a fancy business model; it’s just common sense for people living in a village. We have a lot of conversations about the soil and the pests that might be bothering the plants. It’s the kind of talk that’s been going on here for generations. We don't have any polished speeches or big promises. We just try to get the best out of our land and make sure the families in Dighalgram have what they need. Sometimes the machinery breaks or the rain is too much, but we just fix it and keep going. That’s just the way it is for us every single day.
