About Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya – Education in Dakshina Kannada
If you take the Mudipu-Vittal Road out toward Kurnad, you’ll find us. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is tucked away in that part of Mangalore. It’s a bit of a drive from the city center, but that gives the kids plenty of room and fresh air. Since it’s a residential school, it feels more like a small village than just a place for classes. We have dormitories where the students stay, and the teachers mostly live on-site too. This means we see each other at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s a very different vibe than a day school. You’ll often see us walking across the grounds in the evening or sitting under the trees. The buildings are functional and have been around for a while. We manage everything from the kitchen supplies to the science lab equipment. Mangalore weather can be unpredictable, so we spend a lot of time dealing with the heavy rains. It’s not a polished corporate environment. It’s more about the routine of study hours and shared meals. We have students coming from all over the district, and they bring a lot of energy to the place. We just try to keep a steady hand on things and make sure the kids are looked after 24 hours a day. It’s a big responsibility, but we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of life here in Kurnad. Even when things get a bit loud in the dining hall, we wouldn't have it any other way.
