About Sharada Vidyanikethana Public School – Education in Dakshina Kannada
Sharada Vidyanikethana Public School is tucked away in the Devinagar area of Mangalore, right near the Thalapadi Post. It’s a humid part of the country, so the building always has that slightly damp feel, especially when the monsoon rains start hitting the coast. We have a fair amount of space around the school where the kids can run, though it gets a bit muddy during the wet months. Inside, the hallways are wide and the classrooms have high ceilings to try and catch any breeze coming off the sea. Our staff isn't very large, so everyone ends up doing a bit of everything, from supervising the lunchroom to fixing the gate when it gets stuck. We don't have a lot of high-tech gadgets; most of what we do is just good old-fashioned teaching with chalk and blackboards. The office is a busy little room where we keep all the files and handle the phone calls from parents. You’ll often find a few of us sitting there during the break, just catching our breath before the next class starts. We keep the place clean, but it’s a working school, so there are always scuff marks on the walls and piles of books on the desks. It’s just a regular local school where we do our best to keep things moving along without too much fuss. People in the neighborhood know us well, and we like it that way.
