Shree Ice Cream

It is quite narrow, so when the delivery vans come in, it can get a bit tight for everyone else. We have been making ice cream here for years. The main thing is keeping the freezers running perfectly. If they stop, we are in trouble. It is always cold inside our storage area, which is a nice break from the Chennai heat outside. We spend the day mixing batches and packing things into containers. It’s a lot of manual labor, lifting heavy tubs and moving things around. The floor is often a bit slippery, so we have to be careful. We don't have a big storefront with tables and chairs. Most of what we make goes out to shops and vendors across the city. Sometimes kids from the neighborhood come by hoping for a sample, and we try to help them out if we can. The noise from the compressors is something you just get used to after a week. It’s a family-run kind of vibe here, even if it’s busy. We don't use any fancy marketing tricks. People just like the taste of what we make, and that has kept us going in Choolai for a long time. We just keep our heads down and keep the freezers full and the product moving out.
