Down in Chennai, on Nelson Manickam Road, things are always moving fast. We’re located in JVL Towers-B, up on the second floor. Working at Prakash Food & Milk Industries involves a lot of coordination. Being in an office building like this means we’re a bit removed from the actual farms, but the work is still all about food and dairy. We spend our time managing the distribution and making sure the milk gets to where it needs to go. The traffic outside is usually a mess, especially during rush hour, so we plan our days around that. Inside the office, it’s mostly just desks, computers, and a lot of files. It’s not the most exciting place to look at, but it’s where the decisions happen. We have a lot of tea and talk about the logistics of moving perishable goods in this Chennai heat. It’s a constant battle to keep things fresh and on schedule. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait for the generator to kick in, which is just part of life here. We don’t have any fancy mission statements plastered on the walls; we just focus on getting the day’s work done without any major hiccups. Most of us have been here a long time, so we know the routine inside and out. It’s just a regular local business trying to do its part in the city’s food supply chain. We try to keep things organized despite the busy atmosphere.
