Arun Ice Cream Moolakadai/Divya Deepika Ice Cream

Our place is called Divya Deepika Ice Cream, and you can find us at No 25 on Madhavaram High Road in Moolakadai. If you know Moolakadai, you know it’s a major junction and there is always traffic and noise. We are right there in the middle of it. We’ve been running this Arun Ice Cream outlet for a good amount of time. The building is older, but it keeps the heat out well enough. Most of our day is spent serving people who are passing through or locals living in the nearby streets. It’s a simple business. We keep the freezers clean and make sure the favorites are always in stock. Sometimes the delivery truck gets stuck at the signal, which can be frustrating, but that’s life on Madhavaram High Road. I usually handle the accounts while my nephew helps with the customers. We have a small bench outside where people can sit for a minute, though most prefer to head home before the ice cream melts in the Chennai heat. The dust from the road is a constant battle, so we are always wiping down the counters and the glass tops. It isn't a fancy job, but it keeps us busy and connected to the neighborhood. We see people from all walks of life stopping by. It feels good to provide something that makes people smile, especially when the humidity is as bad as it gets in North Chennai these days and everyone is thirsty.
