Ayanar Karaikudi Restaurant sits right on Ethiraj Salai, across from the Egmore Railway Station in Chennai. Being so close to the station means we see a lot of people coming and going. Our address covers New No 37 and 39 on Gandhi Irwin Road. It’s a busy intersection and the noise from the trains and traffic is always there. We focus on Karaikudi style cooking, which is what we know best. It’s not a quiet, fancy place to eat. It’s usually loud and fast-paced because people have trains to catch. We have a simple dining area with chairs that have seen better days. The walls have a few pictures but nothing too decorative. We don’t have a big corporate structure. It’s just us and a small kitchen crew. We get our spices and ingredients from the local markets and do the grinding ourselves. Sometimes the floor gets a bit messy during the lunch rush, but we try to keep up with it. We’ve been in this spot near the Egmore station for quite a while now. Many travelers stop by for a quick plate of food before heading to the platforms. We don’t use any special marketing language to get people in. Our doors stay open for anyone who is hungry and needs a meal in a hurry. It’s just an honest restaurant in a very busy part of Chennai. We just make sure there is plenty of food for everyone who walks in.
