You'll find spice root restaurant at shop no-2 in the Madhav Market area of Lanka. We are quite close to the Heritage Hospital, which is the main landmark people use to find us. Varanasi is a place with so much history, and being here in Lanka feels special. Our shop is quite modest, just a few tables and a kitchen that’s always on the go. We started this because we wanted to offer something honest and local. We buy our spices whole and grind them ourselves because the pre-packaged stuff just doesn't have the same kick. The shop can get quite crowded, and sometimes you might have to share a table if it’s really busy. We don’t mind, it makes for a friendlier atmosphere. The noise from the market outside is always there, but you get used to it after a while. We aren’t looking to become a big chain or anything; we just like being a part of this neighborhood. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to use the generator, or the water delivery is late, but that’s just life in a busy city. We do our best to keep things clean and the food hot. It’s a simple operation, run by people who just enjoy cooking and seeing others enjoy their meal. That’s pretty much the whole story of how we ended up running this little restaurant in Madhav Market.
