Sheenu Restaurant is tucked away inside the Ganpati Guest House at Meerghat. If you know Varanasi, you know how the lanes are. Our address is D-3/24, and it’s right in the heart of that old part of the city near the water. Being at Meerghat means things are always moving around us. You get the pilgrims, the tourists, and the locals all walking through those narrow gaps between the buildings. It’s a bit of a maze to get here if it’s your first time, but that’s just how Meerghat is. We started the restaurant to serve the people staying at the guest house and anyone else who wanders in from the ghats. It’s a simple setup. We spend a lot of our time just managing the daily rush and making sure there’s enough food for everyone. The atmosphere is very old-school Varanasi. You can hear the temple bells sometimes and the sound of people down by the river. It’s not a quiet place, but it has its own rhythm. We’ve been at this spot for quite some time now. We don’t try to be anything fancy. We just keep the kitchen running and the tables clean. It’s a lot of work every day, but we like being part of the life here at the ghat. Most people find us when they’re looking for a place to sit after walking the stairs and seeing the sights.
