Shahi Daya Restaurant

Our restaurant, Shahi Daya Restaurant, is on Gurubagh Road here in Varanasi. We are right in the Rathyatra area, specifically opposite the main crossing. If you know Varanasi, you know that Rathyatra is always moving. There are cycles, rickshaws, and people everywhere. It stays loud pretty much from sunrise until late at night. We have been in this spot for some time now. The building is older, and we have had to fix the walls and the plumbing more times than I can count. It is just part of living and working in this city. Inside, we have enough tables for the lunch rush, but it can get a bit tight when the college students or the local shopkeepers all come in at once. We don't have any big mission statement or anything. We just get the vegetables from the market nearby and start cooking early. The kitchen gets really hot during the summer months, but we just keep the fans going. I handle the money and the orders while the guys in the back do the heavy lifting. We see a lot of tourists passing by the crossing too. They usually look a bit lost, so we help them with directions while they eat. It is a simple life running a restaurant on Gurubagh Road. We just take it one day at a time and try to keep the place running. There is always something to do, like cleaning the front or checking the stock.
