Phulwari Restaurant

People usually find us because we are so close to the Jaipuria Dharamshala here in Godowlia. In Godowlia, the street gets really crowded, especially when the pilgrims are moving through. We’ve been at this spot for a while now, just doing our thing. The name is Phulwari, but most locals just know the building. It’s not a fancy place by any means. We open up early, sweep the front, and get the kitchen going before the sun gets too high. The air in Godowlia is always full of bells and rickshaw horns, so it’s never really quiet here. We just serve the food we know how to make. Some days are busier than others, especially during festivals when you can hardly walk outside. We have regular tables and chairs, nothing special. The staff has been here for years, so we all know each other's moods. If you're looking for a big corporate menu, you won't find it. We just have what’s written on the board or what we’ve been cooking that morning. Sometimes the power goes out, but we just keep going. It’s just how things work in this part of town. We don't spend money on big signs or anything. If people like the food, they come back, and that’s basically how we’ve stayed open. It gets dusty from the road, but we try to keep it clean enough for a decent meal. It is just a simple life here in Varanasi.
