Kawakhali Junior High School

Up here in Siliguri, near the Asian Highway road, you’ll find Kawakhali Junior High School. We are in the Matigara area, specifically Sushrut Nagar. Being so close to the highway means we hear the trucks and cars going by all day long, but you get used to that after a week or two. Our school is a junior high, so we deal with those middle years where the kids are starting to grow up but are still quite young. The building is simple, made of concrete and brick, and it stands up okay to the heavy rains we get in this part of West Bengal. We don’t have any fancy landscaping, just the ground where the kids run around during their breaks. The teachers come from around Siliguri and they bring their own lunches and sit together when they have a free period. It’s not a polished place. There are scratches on the desks and the blackboards sometimes need a fresh coat of paint. We focus on the basic subjects, making sure the students can read, write, and do their sums correctly. It’s an honest kind of work we do here. We don't have a big website or a social media person. If you want to know about us, you just walk in and talk to someone in the office. It’s just a local school serving the people living around Matigara and the highway area.
