Himali Boarding School

Himali Boarding School is up here in Dumaram, Kurseong. Being in the hills means the weather changes pretty fast, and we often have mist rolling right past the windows in the afternoon. It’s a different kind of life compared to the schools down in the plains. We have students staying with us throughout the term, so the place never really sleeps. Our staff is mostly busy with the daily logistics of running a boarding house. This includes everything from the kitchen schedules to making sure the dorms are tidy. The address is simple enough to find if you’re heading through Dumaram. The walk up to the main gates can be a bit steep, but the view of the mountains makes up for it. We spend a lot of time walking between the different buildings. It’s a lot of stairs and old wooden floors that creak a bit when you walk over them. We don't really have a polished front office. It's more of a working space with stacks of registers and lost sweaters. Sometimes the rain makes it hard to do much outside, so we all crowd indoors. We just try to keep things structured for the kids, making sure they eat on time and get to their classes. It is a long day for everyone, but we’ve been doing this for years and it’s just part of the routine now.
