G M Public School started on Palash Sarani Road years ago. Pradhan Nagar is a busy spot in Siliguri and it gets quite crowded around here during the morning hours. It’s mostly just us trying to keep the gates open and the kids in their seats every day. The weather in this part of West Bengal can be a bit much sometimes, especially when it rains hard on the roof and makes a lot of noise. We see the same parents every morning at Ward No 46. Most of the staff live nearby, so we just walk in or take a rickshaw. The school is not fancy. The building has seen better days and maybe needs a bit of new paint here and there, but it works fine for what we do. We have desks and chairs and a small space for the kids to run around during the break. People in the neighborhood know where we are. Usually, the bell rings at eight and the whole street gets loud for ten minutes while everyone arrives. Then it’s mostly quiet until lunch. We just do the work, follow the books, and make sure everyone gets home okay at the end of the shift. Sometimes the monkeys from the trees near the road come over and look at the classrooms, which is just how things are here. No big speeches or anything, just a school where local kids come to spend their day while their folks are at work.
