About Holy Word Ministeries School – Education in Darjeeling
Out here in Champasari, Siliguri, things can feel a bit crowded, especially when school lets out. Our school sits right in the middle of it all. It’s a solid building, though the paint on the outside has faded a bit from the heavy rains we get in this part of West Bengal. Inside, the hallways are usually full of the sound of shuffling feet and teachers calling for order. We have students from all over the immediate area. Some walk, some come by bus. The classrooms have the usual wooden desks and chalkboards that we try to keep clean, though there’s always a bit of dust. Our teachers are busy people. They spend their breaks in the small staff room drinking tea and talking about the upcoming exams or how the school garden is doing. We don't have a giant campus, but there is enough space for the kids to run around a little during their lunch break. Sometimes the power goes out and we just have to open the windows and carry on. It’s a very local sort of place. Most of the families around here have known us for years. We just try to get through the syllabus and make sure the students are actually learning something useful. It’s a lot of work, but it’s what we do here at Holy Word Ministeries School every single day.
