Doon Heritage School

We are out in Kolabari, in the Champasari part of Siliguri. Doon Heritage School is situated where it’s a bit more open, so we get a decent breeze most of the time. The school building is pretty straightforward and functional. We have classrooms for the different grades and a space for the kids to gather in the morning for assembly. Being in Siliguri, we sometimes see the mountains when the sky is clear, which is a nice sight while working. Our daily routine is mostly about keeping the students on track with their work and making sure they have their pens and pencils. We have desks that have seen a lot of use and blackboards that always need a good wipe at the end of the day. The teachers here come from all over the local area and they know the neighborhood well. We spend our breaks talking about the curriculum or what we’re having for lunch in the staff room. It’s a practical place. We don’t have a lot of extra decoration or fluff. Parents stop by the office to talk about exams or to pay the monthly fees. We try to keep the garden out front looking okay, but the weeds grow fast. The kids are usually full of energy, so the noise levels can get quite high during recess. We just take it one day at a time, making sure the lessons are taught and the kids are safe until their parents pick them up. It’s just a normal school doing the normal things.
