Vidyamandir Book Centre

Finding us at 618/2 on the 1st floor of the Dangat Industrial Estate takes a minute if you’re new to Avenue Road. You have to head up the stairs, and it’s usually a bit dusty because of all the work happening in the other units around here. Once you get inside Vidyamandir Book Centre, it's mostly stacks of paper and rows of shelves that have seen better days. We don’t have fancy displays or those bright lights you see in mall shops. It’s more about having what people need when they come looking. The air smells like old paper and ink, which I guess is normal for a place like this. Avenue Road is always packed with people and carts, so getting things delivered to the first floor is sometimes a bit of a struggle. We spend a lot of time moving boxes around to make space. It’s a busy environment and can get pretty noisy with the industrial sounds from downstairs. We keep a fan going most of the time to keep the air moving. If someone calls, we usually have to step away from the window to hear them over the traffic. It’s a practical setup. We know where everything is, even if it looks a bit cluttered to someone else. Most days are just spent checking lists and making sure the right books are going to the right people. It’s just us here, working away in the estate. We like it fine.
