B S Gowda Book House

You have to go up to the first floor to find us. We’re at 118 New Vandana Society, right across from the General Post Office on Avenue Road. Being upstairs means it’s a little quieter than the street, but not much. B S Gowda Book House has been here for a while now. We have a lot of windows, so there’s good light for most of the day. The stairs are a bit steep, so watch your step coming up. We keep a lot of our inventory in the back room because the front is already full. It’s mostly just me working here, though my wife comes in to help on Saturdays. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just know where we are from word of mouth. Sometimes the mailman stops in for a chat since he’s right across the street. We sell a lot of stuff for the local offices and students. It’s not a glamorous job, but it keeps us busy. We have an old radio that we play most afternoons. It’s a bit crackly but it fills the silence. The shelves are mostly metal, which makes a loud sound when you move things. We try to keep things in order, but it's a constant battle. If you need to find us, just look for the post office and then look up. We’re usually there until seven most nights of the week. Come on up whenever you have some time and need a book. We don't mind waiting a bit.
