Vijayalakshmi Book Centre

We are located at 68/69 on Bibvewadi Road, near the Madhuvan Hotel on Avenue Road. It’s a pretty busy street, especially during the lunch hour when everyone is heading to the hotel. Vijayalakshmi Book Centre has been in this spot for a long time. The shelves are made of old wood and they creak a bit when you pull a heavy book off. We have a lot of different things, from school supplies to novels. It’s hard to keep it all neat. I spend half my day just putting things back where they belong because people browse and then leave books in random places. The ceiling fan wobbles a little, but it keeps the air moving. We don’t have a computer for checking stock, we just know what’s there by looking. If we don’t have it, we might be able to get it in a week or two. It’s just how we operate. Most days are quiet until the schools let out. Then it gets quite loud for an hour or so. We like it that way, keeps things interesting. My family helps out behind the counter when it gets busy. We’re not trying to compete with the big stores in the city center. We just provide what the people around here need. It’s a simple life and we’re happy enough with it. The address is easy to find if you know the hotel. We’re usually around most days from morning to evening, just working away.
