Vijay Book Centre

Vijay Book Centre is on the first floor of a building in Shree Ghantakarna Market on Avenue Road. We are at number 34, right across from Kamat Hotel and just above Ganesh Juice Centre. Being on Avenue Road means it’s always loud and crowded outside, but that’s the way it’s always been. Our shop is a bit of a climb up the stairs, but it’s quieter once you get inside. We have stacks of books everywhere, and sometimes they almost reach the ceiling. It’s a bit dusty, and we spend a lot of time trying to keep the place tidy, though it’s a losing battle most days. We aren't a big chain store with fancy displays. It’s just a traditional book shop where we know where most things are hidden. The market is a maze, but people find their way to us because we’ve been here for years. We don't use any slick sales tactics or shiny brochures. Mostly, we just chat with whoever comes in and help them find what they need. Sometimes the juice shop downstairs gets a bit noisy, or the smell of food from Kamat Hotel drifts up, but we don't mind. It’s part of the charm of working in this old market. We handle the orders ourselves and try to keep up with what’s popular. Running a book centre on the first floor has its quirks, but we enjoy the view of the street from our window.
