Triveni Book Centre

Triveni Book Centre has been at 608 Malhar Road for a long time now. We’re right near the Rice Memorial Church on Avenue Road, which is a landmark most people know. If you’ve ever walked down Avenue Road, you know how packed it gets with people and carts and scooters. Our shop is tucked in there, and sometimes people walk right past the door without noticing us because we don't have any bright signs. Inside, it's pretty much just books from the floor to the ceiling. We have to use a wooden ladder to reach the top shelves, and the wood is starting to creak a bit. We get a lot of students and people looking for specific religious texts or local literature. The shop feels a bit dark because the buildings are so close together, but we have a few tube lights that do the job. My grandfather started this, and we’ve kept it going without changing much of anything. The counter is worn down where people lean their elbows. Sometimes the neighbor's cat comes in and sleeps on the pile of newspapers. We don't have a computer system or anything, we just know where things are by heart. It’s a bit chaotic, but we like it that way. It feels like home to us, and we plan on staying right here on Malhar Road for as long as we can. It's a bit dusty and cramped, but it's got character and plenty of books to look through.
