Sriram Book House

If you go to Sadar Bazar in Sector 19 of Indira Nagar, you’ll find Sriram Book House at number 197. It’s a busy neighborhood and we’ve been part of it for a long time. The shop is packed from floor to ceiling. Sometimes I think if I pull out one book from the bottom, the whole stack might come down. We have everything from school textbooks to old novels that have lost their covers. People in Indira Nagar are always busy, but some still find time to stop in and browse. I don't use a computer to look things up. I just know my shelves. The front door sticks a little bit when it’s humid, so you have to give it a good push. I usually have the radio playing some old songs quietly in the corner. It keeps me company when there aren't any customers. The street outside is always full of scooters and cars honking, but inside it’s a bit more peaceful. We have a lot of regulars who have been coming here since they were kids. Now they bring their own children to get their school supplies. I’ve got a small kettle in the back to make tea in the afternoons. Sometimes if a regular customer comes in, I’ll share a cup with them while we talk about the neighborhood. It makes the long days go by a bit faster for everyone.
