Sri Krishna Book Centre

Sri Krishna Book Centre is over at 590 Avenue Road, right near Hotel Maduban. It’s a small place but we manage to fit a whole lot of books inside. If you’re walking down the street, you might almost miss us because the entrance is a bit narrow. Inside, it’s basically just rows and rows of shelves that go all the way to the top. I have to use a wooden stool to reach the higher books, and even then, it’s a bit of a stretch. We get a lot of students from the nearby colleges coming in with their book lists. It gets really busy in the afternoons, and I’m often running around trying to find a specific title while the traffic noise outside gets louder. The shop has a bit of a smell of old paper, which I’ve grown to like over the years. We don’t have air conditioning or anything, so we just leave the front open and hope for a breeze. Sometimes a customer will ask for something really obscure, and it’s like a treasure hunt trying to find it in the back. We don't have a fancy display out front, just a few books leaned against the glass. It’s a practical kind of place. We just open up, sell our books, and deal with the chaos of Avenue Road as it comes.
