Sri Kanteswara Book Centre

We are over on Rangaswamy Temple Street, right in the thick of Avenue Road. It’s a busy spot but we like it that way. Sri Kanteswara Book Centre has been around for a good while now. The shop isn't fancy or anything. It's mostly just piles of books everywhere you look. Sometimes it feels like the shelves are going to give out but they hold up. People stop by when they’re walking through the market. Most of the time they’re looking for something specific for school or just a hobby. We spend a lot of our mornings opening up crates and figuring out where everything goes. It’s dusty work. The traffic outside is always loud. You get used to the sound of the temple bells and the honking. We don’t have a website or a big system. If you ask, we usually know if a book is at the bottom of a stack or behind the counter. My father started this and now we just keep it going. It’s a small space, really just a room filled with paper and ink. Some days are slow and we just sit and talk to the regulars who wander in from the street. Other days it’s a bit of a squeeze when more than three people are inside. We just try to keep things organized enough so people can find what they need. It’s a simple life running a bookshop here in this part of town.
