Sri Book World

We’ve been here at Sri Book World for a while now. If you know Gandhi Bazar, you know how busy it gets. We are right below Food World on the main road. It’s a bit of a basement feel but we have books piled up everywhere. Sometimes it’s hard to find what you want right away because the stacks just keep growing. People come in after buying their groceries upstairs. The lights are a bit dim in some corners. Basavanagudi has changed a lot but we just stay here with the books. We spend most of our mornings unpacking boxes and trying to remember where we put that one specific textbook someone asked for last week. It’s mostly just us and the paper smell. Sometimes the traffic outside is so loud you can’t hear the customers. We have a chair near the back but it’s usually covered in magazines. It’s not fancy. You just walk down the steps and you’re in it. We try to keep things organized by subject but it doesn't always work out that way when new stock arrives. The floor is a bit worn out from all the walking. We open up early and stay until the market starts to quiet down in the evening. There’s no big sign or anything flashy, just the name of the shop and the books. We don’t mind if you take your time browsing through the piles as long as you can find your way back out.
