Sri Book World Plaza

You’ll find Sri Book World Plaza in the basement of Shwetha Mansion. We are at Malleswaram Circle, which is a very busy junction. Being in the basement means it’s a bit cooler than the street level, which is nice during the hot months. We have a lot of space but we’ve managed to fill it all up with books. The stairs coming down are a bit steep so people have to watch their step. We have rows and rows of metal shelves. Some of them are a bit rusty at the bottom. We spend a lot of time organizing things by category but people always mix them up while browsing. We don’t mind, it’s part of the job. There’s a slight smell of dampness sometimes because it’s a basement, but mostly it just smells like books. We have a small area near the entrance where we keep the new arrivals. The lighting is all tube lights and some of them flicker a bit. It’s a quiet place compared to the traffic just a few feet above our heads. We see a lot of people who are just passing through the circle and stop in for a quick look. We stay open late because the circle is always busy. Our counter is at the back, so you have to walk past everything to pay. It’s a good place for people who like to dig for treasures.
