Sri Basaveshwara Book House

You can find Sri Basaveshwara Book House at 42 R S Royal Arcade. It’s on Avenue Road, right near the Kamath Hotel. Being in the arcade means we have a bit of a roof over us, which helps when the weather is bad. The shop itself is packed with books of all kinds. We have stacks on the floor and rows on the shelves. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze when more than two or three people are inside at once. We spend a lot of time checking what we have in stock and writing things down in our ledgers. It’s a traditional way of doing things, but it works for us. The noise from Avenue Road still reaches us, but the arcade keeps the worst of the dust out. We see a lot of students and teachers coming through. Often, they are looking for something very specific and we have to go through the stacks to find it. It’s physical work, moving boxes and climbing up to reach the high shelves. We usually have a radio playing in the background to pass the time. The shop doesn't look like the modern stores you see in malls. It’s old-fashioned and a bit messy at times. We just try to keep things moving and stay on top of the orders. It’s what we do every day from morning to night.
