Shanthi Book Stores

Our store is over at 7 Ratan Pole in Prakash Nagar. It is a simple place where we sell books and some stationery items. If you walk down the lane, you will see our sign hanging a bit crookedly above the door. We have been here for a long time. The shelves are made of old wood and they groan a little when we put too many heavy books on them. Every morning starts with sweeping the front step. Prakash Nagar is a busy area, so there is always noise from the traffic nearby. We know most of the people who live on this street by their first names. They come in to browse or just to say hello while they are out running errands. We don't have a computer system for everything, so we still write down some things in a ledger. It works for us. Sometimes it takes a minute to find a specific title if it has been moved to the back. We try to keep the popular stuff near the front window where the light is better. The afternoon sun hits the shop directly, making it quite warm inside during the summer months. We usually keep a fan running in the corner to help. It is just a small local book shop trying to stay organized. We don't have any big corporate plans. We just like being part of the neighborhood and seeing the same faces every week. It keeps us going through the day.
