Saraswathi Book Center

Yeshwantpur is always a hub of activity with the railway station and the markets nearby. Saraswathi Book Center is at 859 in the A E Building. We are right on the 1st Main Road. It is a good spot because there is always someone walking by. The shop is filled with the smell of new paper and ink. We have notebooks stacked in the corners and pens in little plastic bins on the counter. The A E Building is an older structure, so it has some character. Our floor is a bit uneven in the back, but we have learned to walk around it. We open the doors before the sun gets too high. Most of our visitors are students or parents looking for school things. We don't have a computer for the bills; we still use a carbon paper book and a pen. It feels more natural that way. The street outside is loud with buses and autos, but inside it stays relatively calm. We have a small mirror behind the counter and a picture of the family. The shelves go all the way to the top, so we keep a small wooden ladder handy. It is a lot of work to keep everything in order, but we manage. We aren't looking to be the biggest shop, just a reliable one on 1st Main Road.
