Rainbow Book

If you go down Chhani Road near the underpass in Malleshwaram, you will find Rainbow Book at number 48. It is a spot that is easy to miss if you are driving too fast, but the locals know where we are. We have been sitting here for quite a while, watching the traffic go by under the pass. The shop is quite narrow, so we have to stack the books all the way to the ceiling. It can be a bit of a challenge to get something from the top shelf, but we keep a small ladder handy for that. Malleshwaram has changed a lot over the years, but our little corner stays pretty much the same. We have everything from old novels to the latest textbooks that the students are looking for. The air smells like old paper, which is something I have grown to like over the years. I spend most of my day sitting near the entrance, greeting people and trying to remember where I put certain titles. Sometimes a stray dog will sit outside the door for a bit of shade. We don't do much advertising; people just find us because we have been here so long. It is a quiet kind of life, mostly just moving stacks of paper around and helping people find a good read for their commute. We stay open until the sun goes down and the street lights come on for the night.
