Prabhu Book House

Prabhu Book House is situated at 179/Y on Kenchappa Road in Rajajinagar. It’s a straightforward little shop that doesn’t try to be anything it isn’t. We’ve got a lot of books crammed into a fairly small space, so you might have to squeeze past a stack of registers to get to the back. The lighting inside is a bit dim because one of the overhead bulbs keeps flickering, and we haven't gotten around to grabbing the tall ladder yet. We mostly see parents coming in with their kids to get things for the new school term. It gets really hectic during those weeks, and the floor ends up covered in scrap paper and bits of string. The rest of the year, it’s a bit more relaxed. We have a heavy wooden counter that’s been here since the shop opened, and it’s got a few scratches and ink stains from years of use. We don't use any fancy scanners; we just write the prices down and give change from a metal box. There’s a tea stall just a few doors down, so the shop usually smells a bit like ginger tea and old paper. It’s a comfortable place for us, even if the shelves are a bit crooked. We don't have a website or a social media page, just our name on the front and a door that’s always open for the neighborhood.
