Padma Prakashana Book Shop

Padma Prakashana Book Shop is at 626 Avenue Road, right next to the Kamath Hotel. If you know that hotel, then you’ve probably walked past us a dozen times. We do a lot of our own publishing here, so there’s always a lot of new books coming in fresh from the printers. The smell of ink and paper is really strong sometimes, which I’ve gotten used to. The shop is quite crowded because we try to keep so much stock on hand. We have books piled on the counters and even under the tables. It’s a bit of a challenge to keep it all clean because of the dust from the road outside. I spend my day mostly dealing with orders and talking to people who come in looking for our specific titles. It’s a busy life, and there’s always something that needs to be done. We don't have a fancy website or a big team of people. It’s just a few of us here doing the work. Sometimes the billing machine acts up and we have to write everything out by hand, but people are usually okay with that. It’s just a regular book shop that’s been part of Avenue Road for a long time. We just keep our heads down and keep doing what we’ve always done for our customers.
