Nasir Book Sellers

Nasir Book Sellers is right opposite the Ibrahim Shah Masjid in Kumbarpet. Being across from the mosque means we see a lot of people every day, especially during the prayer times when the whole street gets full. Our shop is quite small, so we’ve had to be clever about how we stack the books. They go all the way up to the ceiling, and I usually have to use a long pole or a ladder to get them down. It’s a lot of work, and my back definitely feels it at the end of the day. The street outside is always busy with carts and motorbikes, so it’s never really quiet here. I keep a small fan near my chair, but it doesn't do much when the sun is out. I’ve been here for a long time, and I know most of the people who live and work in Kumbarpet. We don't do any advertising or anything like that. We just put some books in the window and leave the door open. Sometimes people just stop by to rest for a minute and have a chat. It’s a very local kind of place. We sell what we have and we try to be helpful when someone is looking for something specific. It’s just a plain, honest book shop in a very busy neighborhood where everybody knows everybody.
